The Arts System is an in-universe category system based on Techne skillsets (called Arts) and its applications. This system replaced the previous categorical systems during the era of the Scions, which relied on deterministic or unchanging qualities.

All Techne in their lives developed a primary Art, and can develop secondary and even tertiary Arts. The Arts System was fluid in its application, as they can swap out their primary Art for their secondary or vice versa, or switch into a new Art entirely.

The Arts

Calculator

The oldest Art, pioneered by the Monads to chart the landscapes of UNIVER.SYS. In this universe, the study of numbers and values is universal and inherently connected to the other Arts. Their skills span accounting, data management, navigation, and more.

Prospector

The advancements made by the Calculators gave rise to the Prospectors. These pioneers continuously push boundaries and discover new frontiers. Whether dealing with material resources or immaterial knowledge, Prospectors are crucial to research and development in Techne society.

Engineer

The discovery and invention of new mechanisms and materials led Engineers to thrive. They are the architects of both software and hardware, creating everything from buildings and machines to the lines of code that keep society running. Engineers are also vital to entertainment, having introduced the demoscene and video gaming.

Artisan

While Engineers prioritize practicality, Artisans incorporate style and flair into their creations. They transform numbers, shapes, and color values into paintings, crafts, and installations that resonate beyond mere function. Though seemingly opposite to Engineers, they are merely two sides of the same coin.

Wordsmith

When numbers and images cannot speak, Wordsmiths take the lead. Their eloquence and ability to convey complex thoughts make them excellent authors and marketers. Their roles also extend to historical archiving and data preservation.

Speaker

The Speakers are the voices of UNIVER.SYS, serving as diplomats, orators, and leaders. Their power to speak in ways that resonate with people is a powerful tool whether for good or bad, and thus, this Art is often approached with caution.

Performer

Performers are more than entertainers and stage competitors, they are public figures and trailblazers who inspire many Techne to dream bigger and dare to do more in life. Once discredited among their more subdued, practical, and logical peers, Performer Techne have risen rapidly in status.

Harmonizer

Encompassing guardians, bureaucrats, and public workers, Harmonizers keep UNIVER.SYS running. Though often dismissed as "the lot" or stereotyped as boring and uninspired due to their restraint, not every Harmonizer Techne fits this label, many lead rich lives beyond their duties.
